A Short Story ( First Time )

Well, I started a short story and have been doing a lot of fixings before I add the ending. I have a good friend reading it, as I revise it and helping me with it. Thank You very much dear friend! All I can say, is that, two girls were kidnapped and are now fighting their way to civilization. There is a major twist at the end and hope to have it done soon. This will be my first finished short story. I hope to have you hanging soon!! wait I will share a bit only ok?


  It is dark and cold, the ground and foliage around is wet. Tree’s from far and wide, with Nature’s animals at hand. There are very light footsteps being heard and the animals are starting to stir. Heads are perking up from nests to see what they are hearing.

   Footsteps are getting louder and closer. Twigs on the ground and branches on trees are starting to break. The sounds are becoming faster and louder. Then, two deer jump up and start running off in different directions.

“ Aw dam it !!!” said Pearl.

   Any and all animals go running for their scared lives. Leaves rustling, branches breaking, and all peace broken.

“ Hurry will ya !”

 
“ C’mon Penny, hurry up! We have a good distance on him !”

   Still running and looking dirty in grayish black dresses. Nothing on their feet. Different hair colors but both one length and knotted really bad.

“ Pearl please, wait, I’m tired and my feet are starting to bleed.”

“ Fine Penny, but we only have a couple of minutes ok?”

“ok”

“Here put this on your cuts, the cool water from the leaves will feel good. Then we have to start running again. Penny, if he catches us, he is going to kill us!”

“ Thanks Pearl, this does feel better.”

“ Ok, you ready, we have to go, you know that right?”

“ Yes, and I am ready.”

“ C’mon.”

Pearl and Penny stood back up and started running. Ducking under tree branches, and pushing branches aside just as tree branches are hitting them back. Their feet stomping on top of sticks and sharp stones. Their dresses being torn more by the bushes and tree’s. Pearl signals to stop. Penny stops right behind her.

“ Do you hear that Penny?”

“ What?”

“ Listen, really hard. Hear that swishing sound?”

“ Hmmm, no Pearl, I’m so scared that he is going to catch us right now, and my feet are killing me !”

“ It’s water Penny, it’s water! C’mon!”

   Running towards the sound of the water and as they get closer, Pearl puts her hand up to signal they are close and to be quiet.

“ Now Penny, listen very carefully ok. We need to be very quiet and stay behind these tree’s as we go down to the water. He might be down there looking for us ok? I need you to watch behind us as I go down and I will do the same for you when I signal ok?”

“ Ok Pearl, and I will watch behind us as we go down the hill.”

As they proceeded to move down the hill from tree to tree. Pearl would go first as Penny would go next. The third time they did this, there was a loud crack in front of them. Both quickly got down on their knees very quietly next to the tree as there were a lot of leaves on the ground to blend in. Pearl and Penny were very still and didn’t move a muscle.

   A couple more cracks were heard and there stood the man who has kept them both captive. The time of calendar has been lost to

them. They know nothing of the outside world at the present time. He has kept them tethered under the floor for so long, that they are hoping to see daylight again.

   They were in one room with two mattresses on the floor. He would bring down water and soup to them twice a day. A large pot stood in one corner so the girls could go to the bathroom. If more than soup was made for them, it was something easy for them to use with their hands. No utensils were allowed. The walls were sound proof due to they could not hear anything outside of them.

   The man stops and looks around. He walks a few more feet down towards the water and looks around. He starts to gather up rocks and puts them around in a circle. Gathers some dead wood and then starts a fire in hopes that maybe the girls will see it. For him right now, it is to keep the chill and dampness off. He sits down next to the fire and makes himself comfortable while he waits.

   Pearl and Penny see’s the fire and then Pearl puts her hand on Penny, and shakes her head no. Knowing very well that Penny was wanting the very same thing, warmth and dryness. As Pearl was sitting there thinking and not taking a chance of moving, because he is so close, Pearl tells Penny by pointing to the ground: to sit, pull some leaves up and over her legs very slowly, then lie down and cover the rest of herself in leaves. To Penny’s surprise, she was warm and dry.

   It was mid morning when Pearl and Penny finally awoke, and to find the man gone. He must of gotten up with the sun and started to look again. Penny and Pearl were so happy to see the sun again as they both went down to the water together and drank. For the very first time and in a long time, they felt safe. Pearl took her dress off and told Penny that it is ok and that she needed to do the same. They both got in the water and used their dresses as rags to wash themselves and then to scrub their dresses. Pearl and Penny  used pine tree branches to brush their hairs in the water.
 
“ Penny, when did that man take you?”

“ I don’t know really, but I do remember playing in the front yard on my .
